Exclusive Interview w/ Paper Crane Collective

Paper Crane Collective is an up-and-coming music super team breaking into the scene. Only starting two months ago, this ten person crew has set out to make it big. And we believe they’ll get there.

They’ve already received support by Skrillex’s ‘‘Nest” and premiered the first track of the album through them. Artists such as Diveo, Chet Porter, Dream Beach, and others are all on board in full support of this multi talented and unique collective.

They’ll be dropping their first album in about a month so get yourself ready for it by reading our exclusive interview with them below!

The founder and manager of PCC, Madnap, answered our questions on behalf of all members.

How did you come up with the name Paper Crane Collective?
I really wanted a name that involved some sort of Japanese influence since a lot of the member’s music is influenced by Japanese culture and media. Once Paper Crane came to my mind, it didn’t seem as if there were any other name that would fit us better.

What other artist/artists have had the most influence on your work?
Easy, Moving Castle. Moving Castle was a massive influence for the start of this collective and we still draw inspiration from them in the way that they release their music and present themselves.

How did all of you get together and come up with the idea of starting PCC?
When assembling the group for Paper Crane, I wanted to fill it with artists who are somewhat similar in genre and aesthetic but each have their own unique sound. This way, when a fan of one of our artists discovered Paper Crane, they are likely to check out and enjoy the other members music.

What are some difficulties you have gone through while trying to create PCC?
I’d say the main difficulty we had was finding artwork/design that would fit with the music that we will be releasing. Luckily we had SoundPatrol and Princeling who came up with some perfect designs for us!

What led you into beginning a career in music?
I’ve grown up playing lots of different instruments and styles of music but when I first came across modern electronic music, I knew it was something that I loved with all my heart and wanted to pursue.

If you could describe your music in three words, what would they be?
I’d say the music released by Paper Crane will be, happy, cute and melodic.

Does PCC have any shows coming up?
Not at the moment. Shows would be difficult since we live all around the world. However an online livestream show would definitely be possible in the future.

Does PCC have any upcoming music coming out?
Yes! Paper Crane Vol. 1 will be released in March and will feature music from all of the members.

Vol. 1

If you had to listen to one song on repeat forever, what would it be?
Chocolate by The 1975. It just makes me really happy.

When you’re not listening to EDM, what do you listen to?
Usually alternative bands such as The 1975, Walk the Moon and Two Door Cinema Club. Oh and Kanye, I listen to a lot of Kanye.

What advice do you have for others who are working on their music career?
Don’t worry about current music trends or what styles other people are making. If you are true to yourself and make music that you love and that represents who you are, chances are people will relate to it and appreciate it!
