Genres
Electro House
Description:
"We're All No One" is not only NERVO's first release for Astralwerks/EMI, but also the first commercial release in which the girls (Mim & Liv) step up to the mic to perform the vocals. The song is a marked departure in style and sound from their more underground dance floor productions of the past year, and showcases a daring new vision, that sets its sights on the future of pop, electro-based and dance-edged. NERVO spent most of the summer opening for Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears on their massive Femme Fatale arena tour while simultaneously playing late night gigs in clubs and jetting to Vegas for their monthly residency with the Wynn Hotel Group. They recently rinsed it on the Identity tour, the biggest traveling electronic music festival in the U.S. which featured superstars Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Avicii, DJ Shadow, Skrillex, Chuckie and more. They also recently contributed vocals to their 1st Beatport Number 1 and official Tomorrowland Festival anthem "The Way We See The World", which they co-wrote and co-produced with Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike; a super credible club smash. NERVO are fast emerging as the most sought-after DJ duo in dance music. They may be outrageously beautiful but that's overshadowed by their sheer talent. They are also hit songwriters, producers and artists, a feisty sister tag-team that is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the club scene worldwide with their infectious blend of chunky, dirty, sexed-up electro-house. They've toured with Paul Oakenfold and Chuckie on the acclaimed 2010 "Facelift" tour and have played around the globe including festival gigs at Lollapalooza, Winter Music Conference, Ultra, IMS in Ibiza, Tomorrowland, Summer Daze and more. NERVO have had success on the club charts with their 2010 club releases "This Kind Of Love" and "Irresistible" both featuring vocalist Ollie James. Their growing list of collaborators includes luminaries such as Avicii, Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Kaskade, Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Dadalife and John Dahlback. In addition to their rising status in the Electronic Dance Music scene, the girls are equally at home in the world of contemporary pop penning hits for such artists as Ke$ha, Kylie Minogue, The Pussycat Dolls, Jennifer Hudson and more. Their big break-through as songwriters came when they co-wrote Guetta's world-wide smash "When Love Takes Over" featuring Kelly Rowland, which charted at #1 in 11 countries across the globe. NERVO also co-wrote on a song on Guetta's upcoming album called "Night Of Your Life" featuring Jennifer Hudson. Watch this space...

Avicii

House
Description:
Avicii had only been producing a few months when his friends noticed that the productions were amazingly professional and that they had just witnessed a great talent being born. Avicii started out with doing a remix of the theme music for the Commodore 64 game ʻLazy Jonesʼ, but decided to drop it as it inspired him to make his own ʻLazy Laceʼ - released almost immediately on Strike Recordings. Avicii was instantly fascinated with producing and spent many hours in his home studio creating one fresh tune after the next. Avicii never tried to get caught up in a specific subgenre of house, but wanted to keep the productions up to date and innovative. His music is inspired by the likes of Laidback Luke, Steve Angello and Tocadisco, but also Daft Punk, Eric Prydz and that of Axwell. In April 2008, Avicii released the first big track, ʻManmanʼ, on Pete Tongʼs Bedroom Bedlam label after winning the Pete Tong Fast Trax. Avicii received an astonishing 70% of the votes and after the release and were contacted by numerous labels, promoters and booking agencies from all over the globe. Even Laidback Luke mentioned Avicii on his Myspace website saying: “[Avicii], by winning this competition, left many contesters behind in their dust. / So a big CONGRATULATIONS to these brilliant DJs for winning the contest and all the luck with their future careers!” “ What Avicii wants is to create music for people to listen to and come to love, whether it be at home or in a dark nightclub. Avicii puts great emphasis on melodies in his productions and wants to appeal to fans of many different house music genres. Avicii signed on to At Night Management in May 2008 and within a month the buzz around them spread noticeably and they were recognized on labels such as Joia Records, Vicious Grooves and Ministry of Sound, just to name a few. By the end of that month, Avicii had already signed a big deal with Vicious Grooves in Australia and were head on target to soon explode over the entire globe. © 2009 At Night Management & Bookings, Sweden | www.atnight.se/avicii | info@atnight.se Avicii is currently appearing on selected venues on his world tour but otherwise locked up in the studio, always experimenting with new sounds in order to bring out original cool tracks and to grow as producers. More recently, the 19 year old producer has been VERY busy in the studio. With his first single (Sound of Now) and follow up EP (Muja/Record Breaker) off the shelf, remixes for D.O.N.S., Roger Sanchez, as well as Jose Nunez, Richard Grey & Erick Morillo and with upcoming mixes for Livin Joy, Phonat, Little Boots, Paul Thomas and Tim Berg - just to mention a few. Among more of his own releases, Avicii broke ground in 2009 with his third release and original track Ryù, which was charted two weeks before release on Pete Tong's Essential Mix. One week later it was 'This Week's Essential New Tune' while at the same time the "track of the week" on Tiesto's Club Life (Episode 113). The track hit Beatport Top 20 in worldwide sales almost instantly and has been on Top 30 for over 4 weeks. Avicii in 2009 means killer vocal collaborations combined with his own high- energy style productions bringing a new sound to the scene. Avicii truly is the Sound of Now. Recent success: In the fall of 2009, Avicii's tracks and remixes has become standard cd-case material among many of the world's greatest DJ's such as David Guetta, Tiësto, Eric Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Laidback Luke, Bob Sinclar, Tom Novy, Dirty South, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Joachim Garraud, and Dirty South to mention a few. All of who have openly expressed their full support for this young producer. Avicii was named Breakthrough producer/DJ of 2009 in, among other polls (Cuepoint.TV and the French magazine OnlyForDJʼs), DJ Mag's Top100 issue by none other than Tiësto, Laidback Luke and Dirty South. More recently, Avicii's work has included remixes for Tiësto, Bob Sinclar, Alex Gaudino, Dizzee Rascal, Sophie Ellis Baxter, Little Boots and David Guetta.

DJ MANERO
Genres

Electro House
Description:
DJ Manero was raised by the sounds, streets, and savvy one could only find in Brooklyn, NY. It’s not difficult to fathom that once he became old enough to hop on the subway alone he would venture out in to the other boroughs to explore the rest of the big city he calls home. Known to his family and friends as Roman Grandinetti, he acquired the DJ name Manero because of his striking resemblance to John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. The name stuck and holds true but it’s more than just a physical likeness - DJ Manero has an undeniable command of the dance floor each and every night. At an early age Manero developed an affinity for sneaker culture, but his passion for music won out when he traded three of his favorite pairs to pay for his first turntable. Before getting booked at venues such at 1Oak, The Eldridge, and Juliet, he began working at Universal Records. It was at Universal where he was afforded the opportunity to work with world famous artists such as Mark Ronson, Akon, Robin Thicke, 50 Cent and Swiss Beats. As more venues, people, and crowds experience Manero’s musical tastes, his career continues to grow more effervescent. Manero boasts a well-rounded appreciation for music and it’s evident on a nightly basis. On any given night, he’ll light up a venue with a seamless mix of “I Love Rock and Roll” and “Twist and Shout,” then have you walking hard to the Bee Gees. The oldies are just where he may begin. Manero is an avid fan of Calvin Harris and remains true to his roots in Brooklyn when he pulls out one of his many Jay-Z records. Manero’s ambition and passion for music have quickly imprinted his name on the NY nightlife scene.

Swedish House Mafia
Genres
House
Description:
Swedish House Mafia is an electronic music super group comprised of Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. They came together in 2008 and after years of unbelievable success, have announced that they will be taking a hiatus after their final tour, appropriately named "One Last Tour." The tour will begin November 16, 2012 in Dubai and close in LA on March 6, 2013. Most of the shows sold out almost immediately. Although it will be sad to see the trio split, there is definitely much to look forward to in each of their solo careers. Swedish House Mafia Sells Out “One Night Stand” Dec 16 at Madison Square Garden The Super Group featuring Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso have become the first electronic act ever to appear at the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden in New York City. In under an hour all tickets were sold out, it only took 9 minutes, an amazing accomplishment by the trio, who is set to release a live album taken from the road this year. For all those lucky enough to have made the investment, this show will be truly outlandish, and one for the ages. -Renaldo Gonzalez, DUBSET.com -- It’s three forty five in the morning when SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA – AKA Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell - descend on the DJ booth at their Masquerade Motel night (at Ibiza’s legendary Pacha) and drop their undisputed Summer anthem ‘One’. Now signed to Virgin Records and powered by a suitably smooth soul vocal from Pharrell Williams, the roar of approval for ‘One’ is so loud that it’s as if they’ve just stepped out onto the stage at Wembley. What’s more, it’s a tune so immense that they have no choice but to play it again at the end of the night. Zane Lowe, Pete Tong, Erick Morillo – it seems there isn’t anyone in the electronic scene who hasn’t been knocked out by the power of ‘One’. “The whole season has been absolutely unbelievable,” say house Mafioso Steve Angello, who’s never backwards in coming forwards with sound bites. “We’re competing with the biggest nights on the island and now we’re one of the biggest – I’ve never seen Pacha like that before. This year everybody came through and it’s been an incredible experience.” As for the party, we can’t help but notice that this Motel is full of the same raw energy you’d normally see at a rock show – only for these clubbers, ‘One’ really is the new ’Teen Spirit’. “We did the track in LA together,” explains Sebastian Ingrosso. “We actually thought we wouldn’t do a track together but after ‘Leave The World Behind’ with Laidback Luke did so well, we decided to make a track and it came out great.” Amazingly, the whole shape of ‘One’ came together in just two days. Not bad for a record that Beatport has proclaimed the fastest-selling number one download single of all time. “Two days!” laughs Seb. “We had the idea and arrangement done and after that we were bouncing it back and forth for one day. The concept was simple: we had an idea of looping a kick-drum into a bassline but I said it needed a crescendo of in your face melodies.” But let’s rewind a little. We all know that ‘One’ is the record that’s flipped the script but there are so many other questions we need to be answered. For example, how did these Swedes meet? Who gave them their name? And are they really direct descendants of the mafia? “Me and Seb met when we were six or seven: we got into all kinds of trouble together!” laughs Steve. “Seb’s Dad had a label called Plumphouse and we got into music and did all kinds of weird things including lounge compilations and made music for shows. I even did music for a Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden…” So Team Angello and Ingrosso had been working together for quite some time. “We bumped into Axwell ten years ago now, when he was doing stuff on [the house label] Sulphuric,” says Steve. “We got in touch – we were younger than him – and we just clicked. We all learned from each other because we were young kids. Also, when it came to the music, Me and Seb were more rough. I don’t tweak a hi-hat for six hours!” And then there was fellow Swede Eric Prydz, who together with Steve created the CR2 smash ‘Woz Not Woz in 2004. “We all hung out like friends and started building a relationship. But no-one would give us shows – we had to beg nightclubs to put us on! We begged them to let us play for one hour and everyone loved it. But since no one would touch us, that’s why we worked so hard at the start. After that, me and Ax did Supermode (the Communards-sampling ‘Tell Me Why’ on Data) and me and Seb did a couple of records as Buy Now. We never got the support – until now.” The dynamic of the three and their collective history is the key to the Mafia’s continued success. “It’s been one hell of a ride,” nods Steve. “When the name ‘Swedish House Mafia’ first popped up, it wasn’t something we focused on straight away. People called us that on forums back in the day. But we’ve been through everything together. I can always lean on one of their shoulders and they can lean on mine. I can always trust their opinions. when I have a track, they tell me straight away what they think. With Swedish House Mafia, you’re with friends….” Everybody knows that Axwell, Steve and Sebastian are separate entities: they all have their own record labels (Axtone, SIZE and Refune respectively) and they all have separate lives and individual concerns. But as the success of their recent sell-out Brixton Academy shows and the growing success of Masquerade Motel will testify, it’s what they achieve collectively and as a unit that makes for the most magic. Axwell has already been giving this subject some thought. “Swedish House Mafia is a monster of its own. We’ve tried to control it and seen it as a bonus but the truth is, it just won’t go away. I call it ‘IT’! When we work together, shit happens. It’s a machine that has a certain electricity that’s much stronger than anyone else. Let’s see where it takes us.” Last summer, the Swedes weren’t together as often as they’d hoped but the demand and collective success has dictated that the Mafia must now meet almost every single week. “This Summer ‘IT’ will be more often than last Summer because we are having such an amazing time. Last year we all lived in Ibiza and we got to hang out quite a bit. But now Steve and I have kids, it will be structured hanging out time.” Ingrosso looks at the three of them as bringing different elements to the house music table: “Steve has his underground beats, Axwell is more melodic and I’m more somewhere in between,” he reasons. As Axwell points out, one thing has changed since The Early Days: Steve and Ax are now proud parents while Sebastian is left holding the proverbial baby and keeping an eye on the grown-up kids he’s known since school. Has it made things harder or easier, we wonder? “EASIER!” blasts Axwell back. “I think that your kid creates that balance. But the reward is so massive, even travelling to Oz for thirty hours it’s worth it. When you’re travelling or in the studio, your time is limited so you make the most of it.” And what of Masquerade Motel, the Ibiza home of the Mafia? It’s a club concept that’s been picking up plaudits since the season begun. Is it a similar vibe to last year or different, we wonder? “I hope that it’s not too different,” says Axwell. “It’s just faster and more polished and we’re drinking more gasoline. I guess that the difference with Ibiza is it’s our second year so we have some routine and experience. The first year is about building your crowd so hopefully we can harvest some fruits from the crop we planted last year. I think we’re more relaxed. As for the club, it’s an intimate party vibe – we want you to feel like you’re a part of a private after-party.” The other thing that’s changed is Swedish House Mafia have signed a 360 deal with Virgin/EMI. As they all acknowledge, it’s a Big Deal. Ingrosso again: “it’s a long term commitment and they’re involved in gigs and live shows as well as the music. SHM is bigger than any of us – and we needed a serious partner to control it and that’s what they do.” But who and what have Virgin/EMI signed exactly? It’s three people, three producers and three pairs of eyes and ears perfectly aligned together. And the deal is a huge step forward for dance music and DJ culture suggesting that major labels are showing faith in electronic music again. Their next single ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’, meanwhile, will feature Tinie Tempah. Axwell again: “I’m so pleased about this. It’s so nice to be a part of something that’s bigger than yourself. We all have our solo careers but this excites people on a different level.” So life is looking good for the Mafia right now. “What we do: it’s a show,” reasons Seb. “Look at Brixton: it’s a show. People want confetti and they want to get something out of it. You can’t just DJ and look at your shoes! Now dance music is really big and we have an opportunity to take this further.” But we’ll leave it to Axwell to have the final word as he’s in a particularly thoughtful place at the end of the interview. “I think that it’s a lovely job to DJ and produce and share the passion for music that we have. It’s pretty simple and very natural. We’re not a manufactured thing – we’re musical brothers.”

Art Department

Minimal House
Description:
Art Department is the brainchild of Canadian techno/house Legend Kenny Glasgow and Canada’s fastest rising star and No.19 label owner - Jonny White. As individuals both Kenny and Jonny have released countless critically acclaimed records and are regarded internationally as two of the most forward thinking, relevant underground producers out of North America. Kenny’s credentials date back to the late 80’s and include productions on Narcotic, Jinxx, his own Method 11/11 label and Turbo. Whilst White’s revered No.19 Music label along side a blindingly fast - growing discography have seen him rapidly rise to the forefront of the international scene. The pair, despite being close friends and stalwarts in the Toronto electronic music scene for years, had not joined forces in the studio until only as recently as 2009, when Damian Lazarus called on them to remix Riz MC for his prestigious Crosstown Rebels Label. The result was an entirely new sound that drew cues from the best of both artists. It was a futuristic and raw, synth-driven, underground masterpiece, the start of a new idea and the birth of Art Department… Before long the two were working full time in the studio to expand upon what they had created but now with a new focus… the concept for Art Department was to create a live dj/vocal performance based on the new sound they were beginning to produce and would feature Kenny Glasgow’s unique and sublime vocals that had been heard only 10+ years earlier on records like “Pressing On”. It wasn’t long before Damian heard what the pair had been working on and immediately offered them a deal with Crosstown Rebels that would include several singles, remixes and a full length album due out at the beginning of 2011. The momentum continued and Art Department performed their first ever live show at the Crosstown Rebels Get Lost event at the 2010 WMC in front of a jam packed room, along side an A list cast of 17 artists from the label. DJ’s, promoters and party animals regarded the performance as one of the most ground-breaking & important shows at this years WMC…Simple label boss - Will Saul was quoted saying “the live show was the best thing we’ve heard since we heard Mathew Johnson for the first time…”. The follow up performance came the very next night at Jamie Jones & Lee Foss’ Hot Natured party where Art Department treated the enthusiastic crowd to a mind-bending dj set and secured their spot as residents for the much lauded Hot Natured brand. With massive support from the rebel crew along with an exciting release schedule including collaborations with Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Soul Clap there is no doubt that this will be yet another inspired chapter in the story of these Canadian talents.

Thomas Gold

Progressive House
Description:
“Breakthrough DJ / Producer 2010: Thomas Gold" Axwell in DJ Mag 2010 “Rising Star 2010” Beatport 2010 The changing pace at which Thomas Gold’s year has taken shape has been literally breathtaking for the Berlin based artist. Not surprising then that Thomas was quickly snapped up by mammoth recording imprint Toolroom Records, who invited him to join their thoroughbred team of talent; as both a recording artist and resident DJ for their infamous ‘Toolroom Knights’ events alongside the likes of Fedde le Grand and Mark Knight. This strong start hasn’t gone unnoticed on the dancefloor either. 24 months on from breaking through into the international spotlight Thomas has nestled himself into the CD wallets of such luminaries as Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Tiësto, David Guetta, Chuckie, John Dahlbäck and Sander van Doorn, whilst discovering equal support at club level by regularly chalking headlining slots at prestigious venues like Pacha, Privilege and Ministry of Sound. His year has continued to prevail with similar successes as recent productions like his smash EP ‘Work That / Kananga’ on Toolroom led the download charts for a handful of weeks, before being followed by his collaboration with house supremo Fatboy Slim. Titled ‘Star 69’, the track rapidly ascended the Beatport progressive house chart to claim the #4 spot. His next release saw him teaming up with Italy’s Alex Kenji and resulted in ‘What’s Up’, which released through the legendary Spinnin’ records went onto pick up genre crossing support from the likes of Marco V, Bingo Players, Riley & Durrant, Tocadisco and Robbie Rivera. Recent months have seen Thomas leading a sleepless existence through a busy production schedule and gruelling tour diary that so far has taken in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Japan, India, Dubai, Russia, Canada, America and a host of destinations across Europe. This purple patch in his career has seen some of Thomas’ biggest standout releases and projects come to the fore. Such has been the impression of his music of late that many of his recent productions have found themselves being snapped up by the artist labels of Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello (SIZE) and Axwell (Axtone). Australia’s leading house star Dirty South also signed Thomas’ new single ‘Areena’, a collaboration with David Tort and David Gausa, to his Phazing Recordings imprint. However, it is perhaps his third release on Toolroom Records that is causing the most stir among his fans. With a familiar cymbal and snare drum combination creating an hypnotic marching beat, ‘Marsch Marsch’ is an unusual yet arresting track that delivers with a killer piano melody – which explains the reason it has been one of the biggest tracks bubbling in his sets for the last few weeks. On reflection all this recent success had to stem from somewhere and that point of origin was when Thomas was a curious 7 years old. Taught to play the electronic organ as a child, Thomas soon found interest in digital synthesizers and from here his passion soared. Aged 15 he purchased his first ever piece of studio equipment – a Yamaha DX-11 synthesizer – and has not looked back since. In three short years Thomas Gold has built an impressive back catalogue. On top of a solo releases, his remix work has been so successful that today his credits read like the who’s who of the global dance scene with names such as David Guetta, Fergie feat. LMFAO, David Tort, Norman Doray, Erick Morillo and Paul van Dyk to his repertoire. Soaring high with his music has led to further more successes with Beatport; who in 2009 nominated him in their ‘Best Progressive House artist’ category. He eventually went on to win the coveted award for ‘Best Progressive House Track’ for his remix of Delerium ‘Silence’. The magic you hear in his productions is just as evident in his DJ sets. With a sound that is just at home in the big room environment of a festival or dance arena, as it is in the more personal surroundings of club lands grittier underground settings. It is little wonder then that Thomas’ diary is one that has already taken in many of the world’s best venues such from Mansion and Cameo Miami to Space and current World #1 club Sankeys in Manchester, whilst touring has seen him circumnavigated the planet with rousing appearances throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East and North and South America. Thomas Gold is definitely THE name to look out for in 2011!

Moguai

Techno
Description:
The year 2010 was one that will be remembered as a year of change, development and advancement in both life and in culture. Perhaps this is part of the reason for the phenomenal rise of Andre Tegeler, better known to the dance community as Moguai. A far-reaching and highly respected DJ on his homegrown German circuit, it could also be argued that you only get out what you put in - with this case, Moguai has fully reaped the rewards of a hard working ethos and highly honed production sound, firmly establishing himself as a One to Watch for 2011 and a rapidly growing worldwide fan-base. In between the worldwide release of his debut album WE AR LYVE (the first non-Deadmau5 album released on the rodent Mau5trap imprint), and turning out high profile remixes for the likes of famous boffin Moby and ambient minor-tone masters of chill Royksopp, Moguai has been constantly touring, honoring a packed schedule which has seen him twice head over to the US and Asian continents as well as wowing Europe wide audiences and parties with his unavoidable energy, selection and persona. The demand for Moguai and his newly formed LYVE setup has been represented fully over the past 3 months, planning, devising and creating quality tracks like they’re letters of the alphabet. 2010 saw him release Dynamik on Mau5trap with global house sensation Michael Woods, remix classic dance stalwarts Moonbeam, hold the biggest competition that DJ Download ever participated in and more recently, releasing his most accomplished and popular track to date – ‘8001 / Stay Planetary’, which made the playlist of Pete Tong's Essential Selection show and covered by a flurry of tastemaker press and magazines including a front cover on Raveline magazine. For further proof check out the Beatport stats: several positioning’s in the overall chart with singles 8001, Oyster and Nyce - and reaching No.1 in the progressive house chart - the boy wonder is fully deserving of his ascending status as Germany’s premier breakthrough house DJ. With recent release on the UK’s Skint label, Steve Angello’s SIZE records and more penciled releases on Mau5trap and the revitalization of the Punx label, 2011 will surely solidify his reputation as molten-hot property.

Marco Carola

Techno
Description:
marco carola :: biography :: Now firmly established as one of the world’s premier techno DJs, the young Marco Carola could never have dreamed what laid ahead of him when sneaking into Neapolitan discotheques at the tender age of 13. With a vast array of production credits and a whole host of labels under his belt (Design, 1000, Zenit, Question, Do.Mi.No) Marco Carola has emerged in the last decade to be one of the city’s (and Italy’s) most influential exponents of techno and electronic music. In broader terms he began Djing house music. It was this Neapolitan outlook that helped shape Carola’s path away from the more commercial, progressive and trance styles popular throughout most of Italy and create a techno stronghold in his hometown. It was this self-imposed isolation that helped and inspired the young Carola to reach out for something new. Keeping a broader style helped maintain Carola’s blossoming local workload and soon he found himself playing at clubs such as ‘La Boccaria’ in front of 2 – 3,000 wild-eyed partygoers. A situation he was soon to get used to both at home and most commonly now, all over the world as he gathers increasing air miles between Europe, Asia, South America, the US and Australia on a weekly basis. The early part of the nineties saw DJs like Robert Hood and Billy Nasty coming to Napoli just as Marco was beginning to refine his style and sound into something echoing the styles emanating from the Detroit – Berlin techno axis. Together with like-minded friends, such as Gaetano Parisio, Davide Squillace, Random Noize, and other Neapolitan clubbers and DJs who were eagerly looking for something new in club music, the transition towards techno for Carola began in 1993. With the golden age of the Italo-House movement coming to an end techno offered a complete new vision of possibilities. Thus in 1995 Marco Carola became Napoli’s first techno producer when he released the ‘Man Train’ EP on his own Design imprint. Faced with no real outlet for his own music on labels from his own country, Design was born simply out of necessity. Marco Carola needed to be heard and with little experience he pressed up a 1,000 copies, eventually selling some 10 times that. With so much recorded music from his self-enforced studio hibernation, Carola soon established another label ‘1,000’ to display his minimal techno and other styles in a 10 series run strictly limited to one thousand copies per release. Like his life experiences, Carola wanted to draw a line underneath an event and move on. By 1998 Naples had little to offer this ambitious DJ and keen to sample more of the world he relocated to Frankfurt, Germany and his career turned a new corner. In Frankfurt Carola was able to make his music in a more nurturing environment and similarly his access to travel and foreign DJ gigs became significantly easier via superior airport connections. Spinning his now trademark smooth style effortlessly across 3 decks, Carola soon found himself alongside the world’s globetrotting DJ elite, headlining everywhere from London to Tokyo. A position he still holds and appreciates today. From this base, Carola and Corrado Izzo set up Zenit and Question, the latter a mysterious label he has never commented on. Then following his own self-termination guidelines he made ten releases and quit whilst ahead of the pack. In early 2001 Marco Carola moved to London (UK) after a two year period in Frankfurt and in October of that year Marco showed his vision of contemporary electronic music by releasing his second album (the first being a collection of the Thousand label releases) called ‘Open System’. With its mix of different styles - a combination and fusion of slower material, break-oriented electronica, melodic lines and experimental arrangements together with organic sounds and pads – Carola proved that he was indeed one of techno music’s true prime movers. In acknowledgement of this Groove magazine (Germany) acclaimed it album of the year. If the world hadn’t caught up with Marco Carola’s vision – they now knew just how far ahead he really was. Now three years later Carola has been re-inspired by his hometown and coupled with the growth of fellow Neopolitan DJs and producers that he helped develop has relocated to Italy’s boot-heeled southern capital. With the likes of Gaetano Parisio and Rino Cerrone now major DJs and producers in their own right, Italy’s thumping kick-drum is beating louder than ever. With this fresh impetus, Carola has established a new branch and sound for his creative output. His first new label 12” is set for release at the tail end of 2004 and with it Do.Mi.No (Domestic Minimal Noise) furrows a new distinctive sound and path. It is a sleek minimal look, which cleverly reflects the direction of the labels musical output and most significantly there will only be 12 releases, which will be released once a month in succession. With a new creative channel, once again Marco Carola appears to have the world at his feet. Catch up time for everyone else, again. Credits to :: Jonas Stone
